PALMER, Alaska – (October 19, 2020) — Financial assistance is now available to private landowners across Alaska who are involved in agricultural and forestry production, via the 2021 Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).

EQIP is a voluntary program administered by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) that helps farmers, ranchers and forest owners develop a conservation plan for their property and perform conservation projects, which NRCS calls “conservation practices.”

Conservation practices are geared toward working farms, ranches and forests and provide producers with many options for conservation. Using these practices can lead to cleaner water and air, healthier soil and better wildlife habitat, all while improving agricultural operations.

To be considered for the upcoming round of funding, applicants should submit their EQIP application to their local USDA Service Center by Nov. 20, 2020.

Applications will be accepted for all eligible lands and persons. Eligible land includes: cropland and hayland, rangeland, pastureland, non-industrial private forestland, other farm or ranch land, and environmentally sensitive areas.

Eligible person(s) include: Agricultural producers, owners of non-industrial private forestland, Alaska Native Tribes and related entities including regional and village corporations, and other individuals or entities with an interest in agricultural or forestry production.

To get started, read more about EQIP on the Alaska EQIP webpage then contact your local USDA Service Center.

Some USDA Service Centers are allowing in-person office visits by appointment only. All Service Center visitors wishing to conduct business should call ahead to confirm the office’s status and make an appointment before visiting. Visitors are also required to wear a face covering during their appointment.
