Contact:
Cory Cole

NR 2020-04-23

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alaska National Cooperative Soil Survey (NCSS) meeting originally scheduled for April 29 in Palmer, Alaska has been postponed.

The meeting will be rescheduled in the coming months. It has not yet been decided if the meeting will occur as a teleconference or other remote method, or as an in-person meeting. More information about the date, location, time and agenda for the meeting will be provided.

Updated meeting information will be shared via the NRCS Alaska website at www.ak.nrcs.usda.gov and via email to subscribers of the NRCS Alaska Soil Survey list. To sign up for email updates about NRCS Alaska Soil Survey, and other topics, visit the NRCS Alaska Gov Delivery subscribe page.

The NCSS is a nationwide partnership of Federal, State, regional, local agencies, and private entities and institutions. This partnership works to cooperatively investigate, inventory, document, classify, interpret, disseminate, and publish information about soils.

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is responsible for the leadership of soil survey activities of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, for the leadership and coordination of NCSS activities, and for the extension of soil survey technology to global applications.

For more information on the meeting and soil surveys contact State Soil Scientist Cory Cole at (907) 761-7759 or by email at cory.cole@usda.gov or visit the NRCS Alaska Soil Survey webpage.
