Project Description
The goal of this project is to utilize NRCS conservation practices and agency partnerships improve forest health in over-stocked stands on private land to create a forest type closer to the historical forest community with species that are adapted to the site. As a result, forest stands will be more resistant to insects and disease, and resilient to climatic stresses. This treatment will also reduce fuel loading in and near the wildland-urban interface (WUI) zone to facilitate effective fire suppression to protect numerous homes and private property.

  1. Are the proposed forest management activities within 500 feet of a residential structure?
  2. Is the project within the Union County Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) zone?
  3. Is there an ODF-approved forest plan that has been developed for the property in the past 10 years?
  4. Are there more than 700 trees per acre in the proposed treatment area on average, and does the proposed action include precommercial thinning and slash treatment?
  5. Does insect and/or disease damage exceed 30%?
  6. Is the proposed action located in a strategic landscape position (ridgetop, road corridor, other as justified) to facilitate fire suppression activities?
  7. Is the proposed project adjacent (<500 feet) to a forest stand improvement project completed in the past 10 years?
