Honeoye Creek Watershed Project

The Honeoye Creek Watershed is the area supplying water via tributaries and surface runoff to Honeoye Creek in the western Finger Lakes region of New York State.  The watershed is known to experience recurrent flooding, mainly in the Town of Richmond, NY.

Sponsor

The Project Sponsor is the Town of Richmond, New York.

Purpose and Need for Action

The project purpose is to improve public safety and reduce economic losses associated with flooding at about nine mapped structures and Route 20A. The FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) was last updated in 1984 and sedimentation and changes in land use make it difficult to estimate the exact limits of current flooding. The need for the project results from recurring excessive flooding of structures and roadways. This flooding causes adverse impacts from deposition of sediment, disrupts emergency response, presents a risk for human life and safety, and causes significant economic hardship to the community

Scoping Meeting

Two scoping meetings were held on January 21, 2025. The meetings were held in-person at the Town of Richmond municipal building. The meeting provided a forum for agencies, partners, and the public to learn about the project, ask questions, and address concerns. Specifically, participants were asked to provide input on scoping resource concerns.  The meeting minutes from each meeting, with attached PowerPoint slides, can be accessed below.
