SALINA, KANSAS, July 27, 2026 - In cooperation with Delaware Watershed Joint District No. 10, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announces a 30-day public review period for a Draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment (EA) for Elk Creek Watershed Site 4 in Nemaha County, Kansas, and Elk Creek Watershed Site 12 in Jackson County, Kansas. The EA evaluates potential alternatives for a proposed Grade Stabilization Dam (GSD) at each site. The assessment was completed in consultation with local, State, and Tribal governments, Federal Agencies, and interested
organizations and individuals. NRCS provides technical and financial assistance to local project sponsors under the authority of the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act, Public Law 83-566, and in compliance with Section 102(2)(c) of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, Public Law 91-190, as amended (42 USC 43221 et seq.).
Sponsoring local organizations for this project include the Delaware Watershed Joint District No. 10, the Nemaha County Conservation District, and the Jackson County Conservation District.
