An SDA-populated select list is used to pick a state and SSA which enables creation of a "Ecological Site Descriptions in EDIT" based upon those selections. The data is not static; it hits Soil Data Access Live. Once a survey is selected and table appears, if a new survey is selected it will append to the table at the bottom.

This report generates a list of components and any associated ecological sites. Hyperlinks are created for each ecological site and clicking on the hyperlink will open the Ecological Site Description in the USDA-Natural Resource Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) Ecological Site Interpretative Tool (EDIT). Not all Ecological Site Descriptions are publicly available in EDIT. Please contact your local State Soil Scientist if you have problems viewing the ecological site description within EDIT.

EDIT is an online information system that contains the official list of publicly available USDA-NRCS ecological sites. It replaces the out-of-date Ecological Site Information System (ESIS).The report only displays information for those soils that are within the Area of Interest and are linked to an ecological site in the Soil Survey Geographic Database (SSURGO). If a soil (component) is not linked to an ecological site, it will not be displayed in the report.The report displays soil map unit names and symbols, ecological site IDs, ecological site names, and available links to the EDIT website. • Mapunit Symbol: The symbol used to uniquely identify the soil mapunit in the soil survey.
• Mapunit Name: Correlated name of the mapunit (recommended name or field name for surveys in progress).
• Component: Component name - Name assigned to a component based on its range of properties. Local Phase - Phase criterion to be used at a local level, in conjunction with "component name" to help identify a soil component.
• Component Percct The percentage of the component of the mapunit.
• Ecological Site ID The identifier of a particular ecological community. For NRCS ecological sites, it is the concatenated form of ecological site type, ecological site MLRA, ecological site LRU, ecological site number and ecological site state FIPS alpha code.
• Ecological Site Name The descriptive name of a particular ecological community. For NRCS ecological sites, it is the concatenated form of three or six other fields. The actual fields that are concatenated together to form this name differ between range and forest ecological sites.
