Snowmelt is nearly complete across Colorado. Most basins report early melt and below normal runoff forecasts. Early monsoonal precipitation has started and increased rainfall is expected to continue through the summer, particularly across southern regions.

Colorado Snowpack Approaches Seasonal Peak

As Colorado approaches the seasonal peak of its snowpack, data as of April 1 show statewide snow water equivalent at 85 percent of median, down from 112 percent this time last year. March delivered 105 percent of median precipitation across the state, improving snowpack totals in many basins.

Snowpack Conditions Reflect Typical La Niña Patterns

Northern basins have received more moisture than the south. Early season storms bolstered water year to date precipitation in southern basins but a drier mid-winter has tempered forecasts. Higher latitude basins continue to benefit, with streamflow projections near or above median.
