The Iowa Learning Farms (ILF) conservation webinar taking place Oct. 7, at noon CDT will feature Rabail Chandio, assistant professor, Department of Economics, Iowa State University. Chandio’s research focuses on agricultural land markets, land values, conservation policy, and farmland ownership, with an emphasis on how policy and market forces shape rural economies. She also holds the position of faculty affiliate of the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD).
In the webinar, “Farmland Markets in the Midwest: Recent Trends, Drivers, and Outlook,” Chandio will provide an overview of recent developments in Midwestern farmland markets, including trends in land values, cash rents, and sales activity. She will discuss economic factors influencing farmland prices, such as interest rates, commodity markets, and investor demand, and will offer insights into what these trends mean for landowners, farmers, and rural communities.
"Farmland is often the most valuable asset owned by farm families and rural landowners, and understanding the forces driving land values and market activity helps them make more informed financial and management decisions,” said Chandio. "I hope participants leave with a clearer understanding of the current farmland market, the factors influencing land prices, and the opportunities and challenges that may shape the market in the years ahead."
