Our Amazing Grasslands – December 2024 – Jim Faulstich, Hyde County

“We changed our priorities to taking care of the natural resources and suddenly we started to see the wildlife begin to flourish. Looking at the landscape in a holistic way allowed us to see the interconnectedness of land management, wildlife conservation, and, most importantly, profitability.”

- Jim Faulstich, Hyde County

In this six-minute video, Jim Faulstich found that timing grazing is advantageous to the wildlife, the livestock, soil health, and water quality, so there is a host of reasons not to over graze. Managing the grasslands for his farming operation also benefited the wildlife and his hunting enterprise.

The South Dakota Grassland Coalition (SDGC) partnered with the organizations listed below to enhance the Grassland Planner with a release of a short video story on our South Dakota YouTube ‘Our Amazing South Dakota Resources’, each month during 2024, promoting healthy soils, grasslands, and ecosystems.
