Greensprings Forest Health and Fuels Reduction

County or Counties: Jackson

Primary Resource Concern Addressed: Fire management - Wildfire hazard from biomass accumulation

Project Description
This strategy aims to implement fuels reduction and forest health activities in an area known as the Greensprings, which is located at the crossroads of the Cascade, Klamath, and Siskiyou mountain ranges. The Greensprings area is known for its ecological values and for its unique geological features and archeological significance. Several stressors such as fire suppression, past forest management, and land use decisions have generated dense, overcrowded forest stands in this area, resulting in declining tree vigor. The oldest and most structurally valuable trees are at risk of high-intensity wildfire. This strategy also addresses other natural resource concerns such as altered water quality and quantity, air quality, degraded fish and wildlife habitat, and reduced biodiversity and ecosystem resiliency.

  2. Is the application adjacent to previously completed or planned fuels reduction project?
  3. What is the applications proximity to the project area and 2014/2015 Oregon Gulch Fire? Is the application located within the perimeter of the 2015 Oregon Gulch Fire?
  4. The majority of the applicant property falls into the following FIA Forest Type Group of the United States (200, 220, 240, 260)?
