Nutrient Management-North Dakota

In the agricultural setting, nutrients are the building blocks for plant growth and production.

Common nutrients are the elements nitrogen and phosphorus which are available in several forms. NRCS works with farmers and ranchers to profitably manage nutrients.

Nutrient management involves managing the amount (rate), source, placement (method of application) and timing of commercial fertilizers, manure, soil amendments, and organic by-products to agricultural landscapes as a source of plant nutrients while protecting local air, soil and water quality.
