Public Input Sought – Crabtree Creek Watershed Structure No. 3

Public comments are requested for the rehabilitation needs of Crabtree Creek Watershed Structure at Bond Lake Dam. 

The Wake County government, and the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service of North Carolina (NRCS) are beginning the planning process to develop a Supplemental Watershed Plan and Environmental Assessment for the rehabilitation needs of Crabtree Creek Watershed Structure No. 3 (Site No. 3), also known as Bond Lake Dam. The location of Site No. 3 is within Fred G. Bond Metro Park approximately 2½ miles west of Cary, North Carolina.

This project is part of the Small Watershed Rehabilitation Amendments of 2000 (Section 313, PL 106-472).  This legislation authorized the NRCS to work with local community leaders and eligible watershed sponsors to rehabilitate aging watershed dams built under Public Law 78-534, Public Law 83-566, and the Pilot Watershed programs. For Site No. 3, the Wake County government is the local sponsor, working alongside the North Carolina NRCS.

Wake County and the North Carolina NRCS are hosting a public informational meeting. Meeting date, time, and location are as follows:

The meeting will begin at 6:00 pm. There will be a brief overview about NRCS programs involved with the original development and construction of Site No. 3, the roles of Wake County and NRCS with the operations and maintenance of Site No. 3, the current NRCS programs that Wake County is using to pursue rehabilitation options, and the proposed rehabilitation planning study. The public will have an opportunity to provide either written or verbal comments during the meeting. Comments will be accepted through September 29, 2023.
