Conservation Planning
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is the U.S. Department of Agriculture's principal agency for providing conservation technical assistance to private landowners, conservation districts, tribes, and other organizations.
In Maryland, the Ecological Sciences (ECS) division provides leadership, guidance and oversight on conservation planning policy and assistance, including policy related to the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA). Conservation planners in Maryland operating under NRCS conservation planner certification include employees of NRCS, the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), and the local soil conservation districts (SCDs).
Most documents and resources related to conservation planning in Maryland are available in the Maryland Field Office Technical Guide (FOTG).
