People’s Garden initiative kicked off at Urban Transformation Network.

WHAT: Kick-Off Event @ USDA People’s Garden Initiative Chicago – Urban Transformation Network (UTN) 

WHERE: 4250 W. Chicago Avenue Chicago, IL @ METRO GARDENS

WHEN: May 12, 2022 @ 10:00 AM – Garden Tour @ 9:30 am

WHO: USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State Conservationist Ivan Dozier; USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) State Executive Director Scott Halpin; Urban Transformation Network (UTN) Don Patterson, CEO; Congressman Danny Davis and other Chicago VIPs have been invited!

 

Please join us as we kick-off the People’s Garden initiative at UTN, one of 17 national urban garden efforts, for USDA’s People’s Garden 2022.  USDA funds will be dedicated to update UTN’s Metro Farms site, provide healthy food, support local food production, and offer healthy nutrition for urban communities and families in this Humboldt Park site and new vacant lots nearby.

A virtual video visit from USDA Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will welcome the group. Special guests from USDA and the Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production will discuss national event site in Washington DC announced May 3, 2022. Congressman Davis will share impacts for local residents and families. UTN and Metro Farms representatives will discuss goals for creating jobs and teaching ag skills in local neighborhoods.
