Over 80 scientists, agronomists and farmers participated in the USVI & PR Drought Monitor Forums held August 30-31 at the University of the Virgin Islands and September 1st at the USDA Forest Service / International Institute of Tropical Forestry in Rio Piedras.
The gardens help these communities strengthen nutrition and well-being, promote agricultural development and food security, and conserve natural resources. They also provide a fun summer activity for children, where they learn to care for growing things while receiving a nutritious meal.
In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, NRCS is joining our sister USDA agencies to host recruiting events at the Interamerican University - Aguadilla Campus and the University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez Campus!
Caribbean Area NRCS is helping Puerto Rico’s farmers to convert their sun-grown coffee plantations to shade-grown plantations to protect, enhance and conserve soil, water and wildlife habitat.
