Location: Occohannock on the Bay Camp and Retreat Center
The Eastern Shore Resource Conservation and Development Council and The Nature Conservancy will host a workshop on their living shoreline project at Occohannock on the Bay Camp and Retreat Center in Belle Haven from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 1 (lunch provided). For hands-on experience, participants are invited to stay and plant marsh grasses from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The living shoreline project demonstrates how marsh plants, sand, and limited rock can effectively protect shorelines from erosion while creating critical coastal habitats that support clean water and wildlife.
The workshop will give landowners, community members, resource managers, and others an opportunity to view the project and learn more about what is involved in planning, permitting, and implementing living shoreline projects on private property.
An optional volunteer work day at the camp will be held on May 2 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. to finish planting marsh grasses.
Registration required: Yes
