Meet at Auer’s shop , 10701 HWY 3, then travel to Ryan Erickson’s fields for dis-cussion of no-till techniques , continuous cropping and alternative crops with the im-portance of crop rotation. Next we will view alfalfa in rotation with grain crops at Mitch Auer’s. Mitch also has a cover crop field trial , NRCS will discuss and share moisture and bulk density information as it relates to cover crops and soil health. To end the evening we will have two soil pits dug to demonstrate the effects of conservation on soil struc-ture, infiltration, and organic matter. YCD will provide drinks and light snacks. The Hamilton Field Office will be hosting their first ever pasture walk series this summer. Local producers will be sharing experience and knowledge focusing on progressive grazing approaches. It is an informal setting and a great opportunity for folks to learn from other’s experiences relating to pasture management. No RSVP required! Lake County Conservation District is hosting the 2014 Governor’s Range Tour on September 4-5 in the Mission Valley. The focus of the tour will be intensive “mob” grazing on tame pastures in the Mission Valley. The first day will feature four ranchers and their mob grazing stories along with a body condition scoring workshop from MSU Beef Cattle Extension Specialist Rachel Endecott. The day will conclude with a banquet at the Ninepipes Lodge near Charlo, MT with Governor Bullock invited for the keynote address. The second day of the tour will feature an electric fencing demonstration with various techniques and infrastructure.
