NRCS needs people who are willing to commit their time and talents to conserving and protecting soil, water, and wildlife for their communities and everyone in them. The Earth Team offers opportunities for individuals with a variety of talents and interests to help us keep Virginia's water and air clean and make our land more productive for humans and wildlife. As a member of our team, you can work on conservation activities in your hometown and protect natural resources for future generations!
Why Become A Volunteer?
Earth Team volunteers have one thing in common: they want to help protect the natural resources in their communities. These volunteer hours can also help you:
- Spend more time outdoors
- Help others
- Learn a new skill
- Complete school projects
- Meet high school community service requirements
- Enhance college and scholarship applications
You can also gain valuable work experience that can help accelerate your career in the various fields of natural resources conservation. About 10 percent of Virginia NRCS employees began their careers as Earth Team volunteers.

Who Can Volunteer?
Anyone 14 years of age or older and interested in conserving our precious natural resources can be an Earth Team volunteer. You can volunteer part-time or full-time and work outdoors or in a local NRCS office. You can support Earth Team as an individual or form/join a group.
How Can You Help?
Earth Team volunteers write articles for newsletters, take photos of conservation practices, learn computer and office skills through on-the-job training, prepare and staff environmental displays for special events, assist with engineering design and drafting, plan conservation practice field demonstrations, mark fields on maps, measure crop residue, and work with professional staff on a variety of projects.
