Web Soil Survey

Web Soil Survey (WSS) provides soil data and information produced by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. It is operated by the USDA NRCS and provides access to the largest natural resource information system in the world. NRCS has soil maps and data available online for more than 95 percent of the nation's counties and anticipates having 100 percent in the near future. The site is updated and maintained online as the single authoritative source of soil survey information. The system allows users to select their geographic area of interest similar to other web based "locater" sites but with specialized features for soils information.

Helping People Help the Land

The Texas State Soil Survey Office is responsible for the distribution of technical soil services, and for assisting both government agencies and private citizens in understanding and applying soil information.

The Southern Great Plains Soil Survey Region Office 9 (MO-9) as part of the National Cooperative Soil Survey Program, provides quality assurance for most of Texas and parts of Colorado, Louisiana, Kansas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.
