A series of lesson plans to teach students about Backyard Conservation through hands-on studies that promote field investigation and action. Lesson plans are available for elementary grades 3 to 5, middle school grades 6 to 8 and high school grades 9 to 12.
New Soil Education Publication. The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announce the release of Dig In! Hands-On Soil Investigations. This lively, 129-page softbound book, a bestseller when it debuted at the 2001 NSTA convention in St. Louis, will soon assist educators across the nation in teaching scientifically accurate soil and soil conservation information in an enjoyable way. Partners in Resource Education (PRE) is a collaboration of Federal agencies, a non-profit foundation, schools and other private sector partners. PRE sponsors Hands on the Land (HOL), a network of field classrooms stretching across America. THrough HOL, Federal agencies are providing a diverse array of hands-on learning opportunities for teachers and students on public lands and waterways. The program is being expanded to state and local lands.
Education is a critical element of the conservation effort at the local, state and national levels. Educating youth ensures that the next generation will be wise stewards of America's natural resources. Helping today's adults and students understand the need for effective conservation practices builds on the conservation legacy. Through NACD’s Stewardship and Education efforts, we assist districts extend the reach of their education programs.
