MRBI Fiscal 2015 Investments

NRCS is investing $10 million this year in 27 new high-priority watersheds and 13 existing projects that will help improve water quality and strengthen agricultural operations. This investment through the Mississippi River Basin Healthy Watersheds Initiative is part of a commitment of $100 million over four years to address critical water quality concerns in priority watersheds while boosting rural economies.

A partnership has been established between Manchester College, Soil and Water Conservation Districts, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and NRCS. This partnership is funding conservation practices in the watershed; such as no-till, cover crops, and high level nutrient and pest management.  Manchester College students are using automatic water samplers and biological monitoring to better understand nutrient loading and biological systems in all the major tributaries in the Middle Eel watershed.
