CONSERVING ABROAD: Ag advisers in Afghanistan and Iraq
NRCS volunteers have embedded in the U.S. military since 2003 and worked on conservation projects with local farmers in Afghanistan and Iraq as part of the nation’s civilian effort in reconstruction. Each volunteer had unique experiences, shaped by local needs and the skills of the volunteer. For the next few months, NRCS will highlight the stories of these volunteers and feature them here.
Michael I. Gangwer, a resource conservationist with USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service in East Lansing, Mich., helped to build agricultural irrigation expertise among the Afghanistan and Iraqi people.
