NRCS Partners with Americorp Team

After several years of planning and revisions, the La Center Bottoms Wetland Reserve Program (WRP) project finally hit the ground this past summer. While NRCS and Ducks Unlimited were busy with construction details, the East Fork Americorp's crew provided greatly needed assistance with pre-construction monitoring and public outreach within the La Center community.

NRCS staff worked with the crew to inventory the wetland vegetation through transect creation. Data was collected on species presence and percent cover. The Americorp's crew was exposed to Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology by recording transect locations in the field with NRCS staff.

The Americorp's crew also developed educational materials that highlight the project’s restoration objectives, partner involvement, and fish and wildlife species within the restoration area.

NRCS would like to thank the Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation Department for donating its Americorp's crew for this project. Cooperative efforts such as these diversify the crew member’s works experience while providing needed outreach. NRCS looks forward to working with the Americorp's crew to provide assistance with post construction monitoring.
