During the year following the flood, NRCS administered 17 construction contracts and millions of dollars with the help of 60 NRCS employees who worked 33,000 hours.

Spotted Frogs took the spotlight during a media event reporting on progress of a joint effort to repatriate the Columbia Spotted Frog Swaner Nature Preserve wetland in Park City Spotted Frogs took the spotlight during a media event reporting on progress of a joint effort to repatriate the Columbia Spotted Frog Swaner Nature Preserve wetland in Park City. Under a Wetland Reserve Program agreement, NRCS worked with the Division of Wildlife Resources and BYU’s biology department to build and place tadpole cages to reintroduce and protect the development of the threatened species.

Dryland Farmer Syd Fuhriman checks soil condition while tilling terraces on his farm in Northern Box Elder County Dryland Farmer Syd Fuhriman checks soil condition while tilling terraces on his farm in Northern Box Elder County. Fuhriman is an active participant in USDA’s Farm Bill programs, including the Environmental Quality Incentives Program that provides cost-share funding and technical support to establish sound conservation practices on working landscapes.

SCAN (Soil Climate Analysis Network) instrumentation is installed near Circleville SCAN (Soil Climate Analysis Network) instrumentation is installed near Circleville, Utah. Tony Tolsdorf (on tower) and Garry Schaefer, both from the NRCS Western Region Climate Center in Portland, perform the installation. The NRCS SCAN sites transmit hourly data on soil moisture and temp, precipitation, air, wind and other climatic information to a central processing center where the real-time data is available at www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/scan/. The data can help producers and other managers with such decisions as planting, irrigation and crop health.
