The 76th annual Sam Houston Area Council Scout Fair was held April 14th at Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas. This year's exhibit theme was "Discover Your World". Scouts from 16 counties united in one place to show their Scouting skills, sample dutch oven creations and other delicacies. There were over 60 experts representing merit badges, along with other participating booths from community partners such as the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS).
USDA's NRCS was invited again this year to setup in the Forest & Soils exhibits area putting emphases on Soil, Water, & Energy Conservation. NRCS personnel present to man booth were Delwin Cannon, Soil Conservationist in Houston, TX, David Daniels, District Conservationist in Angleton, TX, and Mozelle Carter, Soil Conservationist in Conroe, TX. Several brochure types pertaining to conservation education, along with some popular NRCS give-away items, were handed out at the booth. The majority of the visiting Scouts and their chaperons were intrigued about what we do and the types of services we provide to farmers and ranchers.
In conclusion, this was an extraordinary opportunity for us to engage in outreach. This event allowed us to share with our booth visitors, not only the various carrier opportunities within NRCS, but also the dynamic conservation programs made available to assist our valuable farmers and ranchers.
