by Beverly Moseley

The Landowners Association of Texas will hold its 26th annual conference on Oct. 7-8 in Humble.

This is a great opportunity to learn how to make your farm enterprise work better for you. This event will offer landowners information on topics such as conservation planning and financial assistance to help implement conservation practices. One of the highlights of this event will include a presentation on NRCS conservation programs, said Delwin Cannon, who helped plan the event. Cannon is a soil conservationist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

The Landowners Association of Texas works with community leaders, local, state and national government entities, along with farm and ranch organizations, to help make available program information to underserved or nontraditional farmers and ranchers.

Dr. Joe Leonard, assistant secretary for civil rights with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C., is scheduled to speak. Representatives from other USDA or educational entities are also part of the program.

A banquet and awards ceremony will be held Oct. 7. The associations Farmer of the Year will be recognized at the evening event.

Registration cost is $35 by Sept. 30. On-site registration is $50 per person for the two day event. For more information contact Edward Cline at (713) 748-0451 or Carolyn Brown at (979) 279-3516.
