June 18-21, 2012
Wells Conference Center, The University of Maine – Orono
Maine NRCS and the Maine Association of Professional Soil Scientists, along with the University of Maine will be hosting the 2012 Conference in Orono, Maine. A central theme of maximizing soil survey value will underlie interesting presentations ranging from the restructuring environment of the NRCS soil survey program to cutting edge incorporation of spatial and laboratory data. We will focus on soil survey products from the 3rd order surveys in the remote North Woods to the High Intensity Soil Surveys of our consulting cooperators.
The technical tour on Wednesday, June 20, will take us into the woods, along the beautiful rapids of the Penobscot River, to look at soils and landscapes in the shadow of Maine’s greatest mountain, Katahdin. Bring your favorite field clothes to cover the weather possibilities (from cold rain to sunny and 80s), and terrain. The field trip will have some short walks. Bug spray may be needed, but that is easily acquired locally. After the tour, a lobster dinner and banquet will be held at the Black Bear Inn.
