NRCS Certified Conservation Planner Training - Module 8

This week long course is designed to provide conservation planning training for students working with individual customers or groups that function as an individual by building on basic conservation planning principles through a combination of lectures, field exercises, contact with land users, and group presentations. A case study is used to demonstrate techniques and dynamics of farm based conservation planning.

The course emphasizes NRCS conservation planning and related policy, procedures and guidelines for carrying out the planning process, technical guidance, tools available to aid the planning process, and a review of assistance available to aid plan implementation.

Course content will address the development of a complete, high quality conservation plan that addresses Pennsylvania resource concerns. Classroom and field exercises will explore the conservation planning process, identifying alternatives, assessing effects of alternatives, facilitating decision making. The effects and impacts of conservation alternatives for cropland, pastureland, headquarters, and wildlife will be discussed.

The course content is based on current conservation planning policy and the procedures and guidelines in the National Planning Procedures Handbook (NPPH).

This course is required for PA Conservation Planning Certification. Students sign up for this course through their supervisors when it is offered.
