Waste treatment is the mechanical, chemical, or biological treatment of agricultural waste.

Purposes and Benefits

  • By-products can offset treatment costs, produce on-farm savings or generate income
  • Protects surface and groundwater quality by reducing nutrient content, organic strength, and/or pathogen levels of agricultural waste
  • Improves air quality by reducing odors and gaseous emissions
  • Facilitates desirable waste handling, storage, or land application alternatives
