Parvin Farms

Davis siblings Eric, Matt, and Melissa farm more than 500 acres of corn, soybeans, and wheat as Parvin Farms LLC, Pittsgrove, Salem County, NJ. A family farm for seven generations, Eric, Matt, and Melissa took over the operation from their grandfather, Joseph Parvin.  Their work with NRCS began with replacing an old irrigation engine with a new, efficient one. Following that, Parvin Farms LLC continued to add conservation practices including an energy audit with grain drying and lighting upgrades, summer and winter cover crop, and reduced tillage. The most visible change is probably their switch from traveling guns to pivot irrigation in four different locations and over 100 acres.  This season they will add Irrigation Water Management, tracking soil moisture, rainfall, and crop water use, to help them schedule irrigation for maximum efficiency.

Loew’s Nursery

Loew’s Nursery has been a wholesale growers of container and field grown nursery stock since 1954. Among other items of interest, we will be looking at their Tailwater Recovery System. This practice was installed with NRCS assistance and has been functioning for many years.  The purpose of the practice is to conserve farm irrigation water supplies and water quality by collecting the water that runs off the field surface for reuse in the farm irrigation system.
