SOMERSET, NJ, March 5, 2013— Farmers should apply by March 15 for assistance through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) Initiatives for Organic, Seasonal High Tunnels, and Energy. Applications received at local NRCS service centers by that date will be considered for funding this year.

Through the EQIP Organic Initiative NRCS helps certified organic growers and producers working to achieve organic certification install conservation practices for organic production. The Seasonal High Tunnel Initiative offers producers assistance to plan and implement high tunnels, steel-framed, polyethylene-covered structures that extend growing seasons in an environmentally safe manner. The Energy Initiative provides opportunities for NRCS and producers to develop Agricultural Energy Management Plans (AgEMP) or farm energy audits that assess energy consumption on an operation. NRCS then uses audit data to develop energy conservation recommendations.

More information about these initiatives is on the NRCS New Jersey website at http://www.nj.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/eqip.
