Under Secretary of Agriculture Harris Sherman Visits New Hampshire

Rick Ellsmore, Lisa Townson, Phil Auger, and Darrel Covell of the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, and Under Secretary Harris ShermanRick Ellsmore, Acting State Conservationist, Jennifer Yezak, Director of Legislative Affairs, and Under Secretary of Agriculture, Harris ShermanUnder Secretary of Agriculture, Harris Sherman and Jennifer Yezak, USDA Director of Legislative Affairs, visited New Hampshire January 25th and 26th.  They met with NRCS team members from New Hampshire and Maine, as well as partners and farmers.  At a gathering of about 30 people at the Wentworth By the Sea Hotel,  Under Secretary Sherman heard of the work being done in New Hampshire and the challenges faced by the NRCS, our partners, and farmers.  Lorraine Merrill, NH Commissioner of Agriculture spoke about Rick Ellsmore, David Viale and Brian Hart of the Southeast New Hampshire Land Trust, and Under Secretary Harris Shermanagriculture in New Hampshire, particularly the challenges faced by dairy farmers in our region.  

der Secretary Sherman and Acting State Conservationist Rick Ellsmore, presented NH NRCS Partnership Excellence Awards to Phil Auger, Darrel Covell, and Lisa Townson of the UNH Cooperative Extension, and to Brian Hart and David Viale of the Southeast New Hampshire Land Trust for their efforts to help the NRCS secure the first in the nation floodplain easement funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
