CEAP Cropland Farmer Surveys
In support of the Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP) the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is conducting surveys with a randomly selected set of farmers nationwide. NASS interviews cooperating farmers to obtain current information on farming practices (e.g., crops grown, tillage practices, nutrient and pesticide application, conservation practices) at National Resources Inventory (NRI) statistical sample points. This farmer survey data is used in field-level physical-process models to assess the effects of conservation practices on cropland.

Farmer participation is voluntary, and the proprietary information gathered is kept in strictest confidence. The U.S. Department of Agriculture thanks all participants for their investment of time in cooperation with the farmer survey. You have made an important investment in the science of soil and water conservation and in the future of the Nation's conservation effort.
NRI-CEAP Survey of Farming and Conservation Practices in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed
NRCS is partnering with USDA-NASS to obtain revised NRI-CEAP survey data in order to develop an updated assessment of the environmental effects of conservation programs and practices implemented within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. NASS is conducting a survey of approximately 1,500 farmers within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed from November 2011 through February 2012. This survey will provide farm-field level land management and conservation practice data for cropland fields associated with selected NRI sample sites throughout the region. The NRI-CEAP survey data will provide needed input into existing physical process models which assess water quality, soil quality, and associated resource concerns and document the environmental effects of conservation practices implemented within the watershed.
The farmer questionnaire, NRCS questionnaire, and respondent booklet are available online.
