Introduction to Ecological Principles: A Basic Ecology Course (NRCS-NEDC-000067)

This is an introduction course for employees who have not had a basic ecology course. It will give students an understanding of ecological principles. The course consists of a self‑paced workbook with exercises followed by a video presentation.

Objectives

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • provide a basic understanding of ecological principles
  • describe and defines the term "ecosystem"
  • provide a basic knowledge of the following ecological principles and concepts and their interactions: energy flow, hydrologic cycle, mineral cycles, factors limiting species distribution and population size, and characteristics of species, populations, and communities.

None

Duration

Approximately 8 hours. The self-paced workbook with exercises should be completed in approximately 6 hours. The workbook is followed by a two-hour video.

Target Audience

This course is primarily for NRCS employees who have not had a basic ecology course.

Proceed to the Aglearn to login using your USDA eAuthentication ID and password.  This is the same as your WebTCAS ID and password.
Select Catalog, Select Natural Resources Conservation Service under Subject Area Menu, Choose the course name by select the button Launch content or Add to Learning Plan to register and complete the course.

District Employees with Aglearn account

Proceed to the Aglearn to login using your USDA eAuthentication ID and password. This is the same logon ID and password used for the TechReg TSP application or profile.
Select Catalog, Select Natural Resources Conservation Service under Subject Area Menu, Choose the course name by select the button Launch content or Add to Learning Plan to register and complete the course.

Technical Service Providers
