Utah USDA Agencies Celebrate 150 Years of Service
Yesterday, USDA agencies joined together to host a grand USDA 150th celebration on the front plaza of the Bennett Federal Building in Salt Lake City. Farmers, FFA students, and partner farm and state organizations joined in the celebration. Utah Public Radio broadcast a live 2-hour program featuring farmers and agency representatives. A half-hour media/vip program featured speakers from the major USDA agencies and partner groups. Mark Gibbons, president of the Utah Dairymen’s Association, served as MC and spoke briefly about the vital relationship between farmers and USDA. Sixteen exhibits, plus an antique tractor and Forest Service fire engine helped bring in people from the surrounding businesses. An estimated 300 people attended. A few photos from the event follow.
Among the speakers at the media event are, left to right, USU Extension VP Chuck Gay, UDAF Commissioner Leonard Blackham, RD State Director Dave Conine, NRCS State Conservationist Dave Brown, and FSA Executive Director Art Douglas.
NRCS Staffers Mike Domeier, Richard Fuentes, and Pedro Ramos enjoyed looking at old photos from USDA’s history.
