Get Help to Improve Wildlife Habitat

If you’re interested in getting technical and financial help to establish wildlife habitat on your land, don’t limit yourself to programs with wildlife in the name. Why? Because other programs offered by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) have wildlife habitat as one of their goals.

NRCS programs such as the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), the Grassland Reserve Program (GRP), and the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) offer excellent opportunities for habitat assistance.

Habitat can be created with the EQIP program as well as the GRP, which targets habitat for endangered and threatened species, state-listed species of special concern, and other species of concern such as the sage-grouse. The WRP offers payments up to the agricultural value of the land as well as substantial cost-share for installing practices. The restored wetlands and surrounding grasses, trees, and shrubs planted as part of a restored wetland offer about the best variety of habitat you can find for wildlife.

For more information about conservation practices that can improve wildlife habitat on your land, stop at the local NRCS office.
