Soil Health in Ballantine, Montana

Montana Farmers Talk About Soil Health

Marcus Vogel, his father, brothers, and uncle raise mainly corn and cattle near the Yellowstone River at Ballantine, Montana. Crops also include dry land wheat, corn, sunflowers, and alfalfa. They have been practicing no-till on the dry land for about seven years and continually experiment with various cover crops and rotations to increase diversity and improve soil health.
