Civil Rights Policy Statement

Government employees have a legal responsibility to provide programs and services, as well as employment opportunities in a non-discriminatory manner. We are held to a higher standard and must be knowledgeable about these requirements in order to comply with civil rights and equal employment opportunity laws and directives.
As your State Conservationist, I fully support and embrace the USDA policies regarding civil rights and equal employment, and I expect each of our NRCS employees in Montana to also support and comply with these policies.
Managers and supervisors are responsible to ensure their employees understand these policies. They are also responsible to create a work environment where employees can function free of harassment as they perform their duties. Employees who do not comply are subject to corrective action to ensure that our employees and customers are treated fairly and equitably.
NRCS employees and customers are made up of a variety of cultures, races, ethnicities, religions, and backgrounds. Our diversity makes us a stronger organization, and helps us meet the needs of our customers in delivering conservation services. Your individual roles in making us strong and effective are critical to our success as a whole.
