Soil Health in Mississippi - A New Way to Think about Agri in the 21st Century

Soil Conditioning in MississippiSoil Health, Soil Quality and Soil Conditioning are terms that have been getting quite a bit of attention lately.  the health of a soil is directly tired to the biological community living in it.  The creatures living in the soil are critical to soil health.  They affect soil structure and therefore soil erosion and water availability.  They can protect crops from pests and diseases.  They are central to decomposition and nutrient cycling and therefore affect plant growth and amounts of pollutants in the environment.  Finally, the soil is home to a large proportion of the world's genetic diversity, therefore; less focus have been placed on soil tillage and more on techniques which requires less soil disturbance.

Tillage has been the tried and tested method to create and a good medium for seedbed preparation until recently.  Once tilling disrupts a soil medium, it has to start the rebuilding and microbial relationship all over again.  this rebuilding time slows the progress of the soil to condition itself for the next crop being planted.  Now that we know better, let's start doing better.  Soil Health is becoming more convincingly the right approach for soil health, quality and sustainability.Soil Quality in Mississippi
