Soil Conservation Technician

IN ADDITION TO THE SELECTIVE FACTOR, THE GS-5 REQUIRES: One (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level of Federal service. Examples of related experience include: knowledge of soil and water conservation methods, techniques, practices and measures in the development of operational plans involving the design and implementation of conservation systems and complex integrated, conservation measures; knowledge of conservation plans for basic established, agricultural enterprises such as grain, livestock, or dairy operations; knowledge of the design, installation, and maintenance of soil erosion, irrigation, water quality, and woodland improvement measures; knowledge of engineering practices in the design and determination specifications for concrete drop structures, small dams and spillways, concrete canals and ditches, etc.; and the ability to communicate both orally and in writing with a variety of people. Evidence of specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation on your resume/612 and must include job title, duties, month & year AND hours worked per week.

OR

GS-5 EDUCATION: Successful completion of four (4) years of post high school education a) leading to a Bachelor’s degree with a major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or related subject or b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of coursework in forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. No more than 3 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. Transcripts (unofficial or official) are required at the time of application. Education cannot be credited without this information.

OR

GS-5 COMBINATION: An equivalent combination of specialized experience and education as described for the GS-5 that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. To calculate the combination of education and experience, determine the amount of experience you have as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine the amount of education you have as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Add the two percentages; the total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify for the grade level.(Experience must be detailed in your resume to receive full credit and transcripts are required.)

IN ADDITION TO THE SELECTIVE FACTOR, GS-6 REQUIRES:One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the federal service that includes: knowledge of soil and water conservation methods, techniques, practices and measures sufficient to develop operational plans involving the design and implementation of conservation systems and complex integrated, conservation measures; assisting in the development conservation plans for basic established, agricultural enterprises such as grain, livestock, or dairy operations; assisting in the revision of conservation plans consistent with landowners objectives and sound conservation techniques; providing assistance in  the design, installation, and maintenance of soil erosion, irrigation, water quality, and woodland improvement measures; knowledge of engineering practices in the design and determination specifications for concrete drop structures, small dams and spillways, concrete canals and ditches, etc.; and ability to communicate both orally and in writing regarding soil and water conservation techniques. Evidence of specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation on your resume/612 and must include job title, duties, month & year AND hours worked per week.

OR

 GS-6 EDUCATION: Successful completion of one semester (9 semester hours) of graduate education leading to a Masters degree in Natural Resources, Agriculture, forestry, range management, or other subject-matter field directly related to the position. Transcripts (unofficial or official) are required at the time of application. Education cannot be credited without this information.

OR

GS-6 COMBINATION: An equivalent combination of specialized experience and education as described for the GS-6 that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. (Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive full credit and transcripts are required.)


IN ADDITION TO THE SELECTIVE FACTOR, GS-7 REQUIRES: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the federal service that includes: knowledge of a range of soil and water conservation methods, techniques, practices and measures sufficient to develop operational plans involving the design and implementation of conservation systems and complex integrated, conservation measures; developing conservation plans for basic established, agricultural enterprises such as grain, livestock, or dairy operations; assisting in the revision of conservation plans consistent with landowners objectives and sound conservation techniques; designing, installing, and maintaining soil erosion, irrigation, water quality, and woodland improvement measures; knowledge of engineering practices sufficient to design and determine specifications for concrete drop structures, small dams and spillways, concrete canals and ditches, etc.; and effective written and oral communications sufficient to provide clear and logical responses and to explain and describe soil and water conservation systems and practices to a variety of people. Evidence of specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation on your resume/612 and must include job title, duties, month & year AND hours worked per week.

OR

GS-7 EDUCATION: Successful completion of 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate study leading to a master's degree in soil conservation or a related agricultural or natural resources discipline. Transcripts (unofficial or official) are required at the time of application. Education cannot be credited without this information.

GS-7 COMBINATION: An equivalent combination of specialized experience and education as described for the GS-7 that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. (Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive full credit and transcripts are required.)

IN ADDITION TO THE SELECTIVE FACTOR, THE GS-8 REQUIRES: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the federal service that includes: knowledge of a broad range of soil and water conservation methods, techniques, practices and measures sufficient to independently develop operational plans involving the design and implementation of conservation systems and complex integrated, conservation measures; resolving a diversity of problems to include modifying an established crop and irrigation system;  developing complete conservation plans for basic established, agricultural enterprises such as grain, livestock, or dairy operations; revising conservation plans consistent with landowners objectives and sound conservation techniques; designing, installing, and maintaining a wide range of soil erosion, irrigation, water quality, and woodland improvement measures; knowledge of engineering practices sufficient to design and determine specifications for concrete drop structures, small dams and spillways, concrete canals and ditches, etc.; and effective written and oral communications sufficient to provide clear and logical responses and to explain and describe soil and water conservation systems and practices to a variety of people. Evidence of specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation on your resume/612 and must include job title, duties, month & year AND hours worked per week.

OR

GS-8 EDUCATION: Successful completion of one and a half years (27 semester hours) of graduate study leading to a master's degree in soil conservation or a related agricultural or natural resources discipline.
