Subject: FNM – No-Till and Cover Crops Workshop
Action Due: December 6, 2010
Purpose. To announce a No-Till Silage Corn and Cover Crops Workshop.
Expiration Date. December 10,2010
No-Till can have many benefits which include reduced erosion, improved soil health, and reduced energy inputs. Currently, No-Till has a small but a growing contingent in Maine. To support this movement, the Maine Cooperative Extension and NRCS have partnered to host this workshop. It will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Governor’s Restaurant in Waterville, Maine from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Jon Stika, NRCS Area Resource Soil Scientist from North Dakota will speak on No-Till, cover crops, and soil health. Jon has been involved in No-Till since 1985, and is an instructor for the National Education Development Center (NEDS) Soil Quality course. There will be other presentations by the Maine Cooperative Extension, and a panel of several producers who have used No-Till in silage corn. See the attached Agenda and Registration form.
Please inform interested producers about this workshop. State Nutrient Management and Certified Crop Advisor credits will be offered.
Pre-registration for this workshop is required by December 6, 2010. Please register with Maine Cooperative Extension as indicated in the attachment. You must indicate that you are an NRCS employee so that you will not be charged the registration fee. NRCS will be billed directly by Extension for those in attendance. You are responsible only for the $5 fee if you wish to partake in the lunch.
NRCS employees are authorized to attend on government time and expense with supervisor’s approval. Please travel together to keep the use of government-owned vehicles to a minimum.
