Subject: ECS – FY 11 Technical Training

Action Due: April 29, 2011

Purpose. To inform NRCS personnel of Cultural Resources Update Training in Maine.

Expiration Date. September 30, 2011

This bulletin notifies NRCS employees of the Cultural Resources update training scheduled for FY 11. We are providing this notice so employees may schedule this required training around their other work activities.

The NRCS State Level Agreement with the Maine Historic Preservation Commission (directed by the State Historic Preservation Officer) requires update training for Cultural Resources every other year for all NRCS field personnel. These staff members would include Certified Conservation Planners, Soil Scientists, RC&D Coordinators, and others who may be responsible for completing ME-CR-1 Worksheets and are involved with conservation planning.

The training this year will be online so as to reduce travel costs and time. It will include several sections: 1) reading of a document that includes a review of NRCS policy on Cultural Resources, main points of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, and tips for completing the ME-CR-1 Worksheet; 2) a Powerpoint slide show with highlights of cultural resources field activities for 2009 and 2010, and 3) a written exercise. The first two training materials can be found on the NRCS Maine Sharepoint (NRCS Maine home page) under Documents/Shared Documents/State Office/Technology/Cultural Resources Update Training 2011. The attachment is the written exercise.

Employees, including those on details, need to complete the training by submitting the written exercise to Gary Shaffer, Cultural Resource Specialist, for receipt by April 29, 2011.

Contact. If you have any questions, please contact Gary Shaffer, Cultural Resource Specialist at 207-990-9566 or email
