Subject: TCH:  Guide for Placing Seasonal High Tunnels

Purpose. NRCS planners can use the guide during cultural resources reviews to assist clients in placing Seasonal High Tunnels to avoid impacting significant archaeological sites and historic structures.

Expiration Date. September 30, 2010

A new guide for NRCS planners called, “Placing Seasonal High Tunnels to Avoid Archaeological Sites and Historic Structures” is available in eFOTG. The guide is located in eFOTG – Section II. C. Cultural Resources Information – Cultural Resources Reviews – Placing Seasonal High Tunnels. RC&D Coordinators and Field Office planners should provide clients considering tunnels both the new guide and the existing fact sheet, “Cultural Resources and Your Conservation Project”, located in the same section of eFOTG. Use of this guide will allow the Section 106 Historic Preservation Review to proceed more smoothly. The guide will lessen the possibility that NRCS assistance with a Seasonal High Tunnel System for Crops Interim Practice Standard (Code 798) will adversely affect historic properties.
