Subject: TCH – Forest Biomass Harvesting Guidelines

Purpose. To announce a new reference document titled “Considerations and Recommendations for Retaining Woody Biomass on Timber Harvest Sites in Maine.”

Expiration Date. September 31, 2010

Background. University of Maine Forestry Department was the recipient of a state Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG) to develop a forest biomass harvesting guideline. It was developed in cooperation with a wide variety of stakeholders and feedback was obtained from an assortment of landowners.

Explanation. This document should be referred to in conservation planning in forestland when one of the landowner’s goals is timber harvesting. The guidelines are applicable to any harvest operation, but they may be of greatest importance on harvests where woody biomass is a significant component of the product mix.

The above mentioned document will be located in eFOTG under Section I – B. Reference File – FORESTRY – (FOR) – General.
