Emily Anderson, Soil Conservationist

Emily has been involved in agriculture all her life.  She was raised on the 4th generation family farm in Flemingsburg, Kentucky and still helps out there today.  She was active in 4-H and FFA in school so choosing agriculture for a career according to Emily, "seemed like an obvious choice."  She wanted to continue to work on her family farm and give back to her local community.  Emily added, "A career in agriculture has made all that possible."

Emily AndersonEmily attended Maysville Community College as well as the University of Kentucky, completing her degree in Plant & Soil Science with a minor in Ag. Economics. After finishing school, Emily was hired by the Fleming County Conservation District as the Fleming Creek Watershed Coordinator.  Her work as the Watershed Coordinator helped the project get national recognition as a success story with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  NRCS was also a supporter of the Fleming Creek project so Emily learned more about the agency at that time.

Now providing conservation technical assistance to Lewis, Mason, Bracken and Robertson Counties, Emily serves as the Soil Conservationist for NRCS out of the Maysville Service Center.  Her goal is to one day be a Conservation Planner with the agency and continue working with producers to implement sustainable agricultural systems.  Emily said, "Working with the agriculture community to help the environment and improve production is my main goal."

Emily is married to Dwayne who works as a Forest Ranger for the Kentucky Division of Forestry.  They have three children, an 18 year old son, 15 year old daughter, and 5 year old son.  They live and work on Dwayne's 4th generation family farm managing an 80 head commercial cow/calf operation.  They also help out on her family farm back in Flemingsburg which runs a 25 head commercial cow/calf operation.  There is little free time after working for NRCS and the family business, but when time allows, Emily enjoys spending time with her family riding horses or ATV's.
