Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT)Special Emphasis Program

On June 4th, 2009, USDA Secretary Vilsack signed a Departmental Regulation establishing a Special Emphasis Program (SEP) for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees. Since then, USDA has implemented the LGBT SEP by introducing and building the program throughout all levels of the Department.

Mission

To provide focus for Indiana State Conservationist and the Leadership team on issues relevant to employment, promotion, training, retention, and career enhancement affecting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) employees and applicants.  As well as ensuring that equal opportunity is present in all aspects of NRCS programs, services, and employment. 

Vision

To provide strong and positive support for the unique role of LGBT employees, develop mentoring processes, build coalitions with advocacy groups, and inform management of differences in working with LGBT employees.  To help establish and maintain relationships with LGBT organizations and groups, participate, in recruitment efforts, provide information and education to the workforce on issues of sensitivity and concern to the LGBT community.
