SUBJECT: ENG – National Engineering Handbook (NEH), Part 650, Engineering Field Handbook (EFH)

Purpose. To distribute new IL supplements to EFH Chapter 17 on acceptable fill over pipes.

Effective Date. Upon receipt.

Explanation of Changes. This notice distributes a new Illinois supplement to EFH Chapter 17 containing acceptable minimum and maximum earthfill heights over pipes of different material types.

The supplement contains the pipe tables that are currently in Illinois Conservation Practice Standard 378 – Pond, along with a table for corrugated plastic tubing. The existing pipe tables in Conservation Practice Standards IL 378, Pond and IL 410, Grade Stabilization Structure will be replaced with a reference to this supplement when the standard are next updated.

The Illinois NRCS engineering website will be updated with these changes: http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal nrcs/main/il/technical/engineering/.

Filing Instructions. Holders of hardcopy Illinois Engineering Drawing binders should:

1. Print out the attached supplements on green paper and file in the EFH Chapter 17:
a. IL EFH supplement 17.D, pages IL 17.D-1 through IL 17.D-4
2. Print out the attached table of contents and file at the beginning of the EFH, replacing the existing table of contents for Illinois Supplements.
