SUBJECT:  National Engineering Handbook Part 651, Engineering Technical Materials

Purpose:  To update the composting supplement to the Agricultural Waste Management Field Handbook, retire obsolete supplements, and renumber existing supplements.

Expiration Date:  Upon receipt.

Explanation: Chapter 10 of AWMFH was updated August 2009 at the national level. To maintain correct location of the existing Illinois supplements relative to the text, the supplements in Chapter 10 have been renumbered.

The existing Illinois composting supplement to the Agricultural Waste Management Field Handbook (AWMFH) has been updated to include composting information on multiple animals, and to include information and design procedures for in-vessel composting. A listing of approved manufacturers of in-vessel composters is included. This notice distributes Illinois supplements IL 10-81(1) through IL 10-81(7) to replace IL 10-62(1-3).

Supplements that are no longer used or that contain obsolete information are removed with this notice. Removed supplements include:

  • IL 2-1 through IL 2-83 (CNMP example)
  • IL 10-38(1-8) (Volume charts)
  • IL 10-64(9-25) (Preapproved waste storage structures dating back to 1971)

The Illinois NRCS engineering website will be updated to include the new and revised supplements at http://www.il.nrcs.usda.gov/technical/engineer/eng_index.html.
