DATE: - March 27, 2012

SUBJECT:  - Approved Waste Storage and Handling Structures and New Revisions

Purpose:  To add listing of an additional Illinois NRCS approved waste storage and handling structure as supplement to the AWMFH and inform staff of new revisions to the AWMFH.

Expiration Date:  This supplement is effective upon receipt.

Explanation:

  1. Illinois NRCS has been working on approvals for manufactured waste storage and handling structures. Certain Legacy hoop style roofs have been determined to meet NRCS standards. Legacy Building Solutions has agreed to improve the warranty on their hoop buildings when funded by NRCS in Illinois. As a result, certain Legacy hoop style roofs may now be used in practice designs involving roof structures.

The approvals of the listed structures depend on proper implementation of the certification procedure for each site-specific design, as outlined in the attached supplement. NRCS will not provide technical assistance for the design of these structures, beyond functional review and approval as outlined in the National Engineering Manual (NEM). The program participant will be responsible for securing the services of an Illinois licensed engineer for design and construction certification.

This notice distributes Illinois supplement IL651.10-23(6) through IL651.10-23(7).

  2. Chapters 3, 9 and 13 of the national AWMFH have been revised.

The Illinois NRCS engineering website will be updated to include the new Illinois supplement at http://www.il.nrcs.usda.gov/technical/engineer/eng_index.html.  These supplements will also be posted to the NRCS eDirectives website at http://directives.sc.egov.usda.gov/.

Filing Instructions for holders of Agricultural Waste Management Field Handbook binders:
  1. Print the attached AWMFH supplement IL651.10-23(6) through IL651.10-23(7) on green paper, and file in the AWMFH after existing Illinois supplement 10-23(5).
