SUBJECT:  National Engineering Handbook Part 650, Engineering Field Handbook

Purpose:  To announce updated EFH Chapter 1 - Surveying

Expiration Date:  Upon receipt.

Explanation:  This notice is to announce an updated Chapter 1 of the Engineering Field Handbook (EFH) – Surveying, distributed nationwide on December 15, 2008. The new Chapter 1 may be obtained electronically at the NRCS policy website:

The page numbers of relevant Illinois supplements have been updated to match the new Chapter 1. The content of the Illinois supplements has not changed.

Filing Instructions:

All holders of Engineering Field Handbook binders should:

  1. Remove the existing Chapter 1 along with the existing Illinois supplements to Chapter 1.
  2. Download, print out and file the new EFH Chapter 1.
  3. Print out the attached updated supplements on green paper and file in the EFH. Illinois supplements are numbered to correspond to the page numbers of the national EFH, and are filed directly after the national page with the same base number.
  4. Print out the attached table of contents and file at the beginning of the EFH, replacing the existing table of contents.
